Hey Casey,

You got a thumbs up from one of my kids - she's 12 ... !!

Okay, this tune got my head moving to it.
I really think the more bassy instruments are missing low end, they should be thumping, as the title says, and I'm not feeling it
Some of the sounds that are panned left and right are too forward, in my opinion
I like the more acoustic sounding parts of the kit
And the kick and snare are too far back, especially at 2:20 when the song really gets going
The kick has a nice jump to it, a nice attack

If I was you, I'd remix starting with all the effects out and see if you can get a good bass instrument/kick setup going, then bring in the rest of the kit. Once that's nice and punchy, do the effects and I think your mix will be much better.

It's not that there's much missing, but I think you can improve this one ... and make my head bob even harder.

Good job, looking forward to more,
Tim

Timboalogo,
First and foremost, tell your daughter I said thank you!!! :)

Thank you for the insights, I remixed the songs heres a little bit of what I did:
added another synth to the bass to add some low end, as well as saturated the bass a tad
added side chain compression from the kick drum to a few of the tracks, namely the bass and some of the deeper samples to get a bigger kick sound
changed around some of the arrangement.

heres the updated version: http://soundcloud.com/wcaseyodonnell/ni/s-3gZaJ

Thanks again for the quick response as well as your advice.

I agree with Tim. Take the overheads down a bit. While your working with the level of the cymbals, might want to let them ride out a bit longer. The decay is a bit short and sound almost gated. Open them up just a bit.

That's a pretty groovy tune. It's always a good sign when I'm reviewing songs on here and I forget that that's what I'm doing and I'm not just listening to the radio.

Having said that, I'm not enamoured of your snare; it's a bit too loud for my liking, especially at the beginning and I think the reverb on it is a little too large. There's an interesting thing going on with the cymbals too - the decay sounds unnatural - but I quite like it and there's a kind of sucking feeling (if you know what I mean!)
