Review of Kore 2

can be read here:

http://tweakheadz.com/reviews/review_of_kore2.htm

Excerpt:

I purchased Kore 2 with some trepidation. Kore 1 took a lot of time to get setup and it tended to be a CPU hog--so much, I tended not to use it as much as I used the plugins it contained. That is, if I knew I wanted to run a Pro 53, I ran the Pro 53 in Logic and Not Kore. When I did not know what sound I really wanted, then I ran Kore as a plugin so i could use the database to find and try stuff.

Kore 2 extends the love of sound to domains that are of the most evocative and beautiful I have ever heard. Like with the original Kore, I can make fantastic sounds, combining the outputs of my rather large soft synth/sampler library. In fact, its better than Kore 1 in terms of sound development. Why? 2 things stand out to me: 1. The Arpeggiator 2. The Step Sequencer. I was skeptical at first, but as I tried them I saw the benefit. Using them at this level is much easier than going into the soft synth and doing it there. Both of these can be built right into the patch and you can bet they make a difference, bringing your sounds to life.

Kore & CPU

Postby colnagoboy on Sat Nov 24, 2007 5:02 pm

Do you think Kore 2 is more resource-intensive than Kore 1?
My pc is Core 2 Duo (E6700) with 4GB RAM,
but when a Koresound (Kore 1.1) becomes thick, it starts to have crackling noise. It seems like only PCs with quad core & 32GB RAM can handle Kore.

The demo version of kore is now downloadable on the NI homepage. Hopefully that'll bring more discussion here.

Well it seems it has been several years now since Tweak introduced kore 1 and 2. Is there any updated thoughts on it now? Ive pickup kontakt 2 and 3 as well guitar rig 3. Plus most of the sonars synths. I have finally started to wrap my head around kontakt 3. i like the idea of simplifying things with kore 2. my questions are as follows.

1. Has there been any improvement for the cpu resources?
2. How well does it work with kontakt 3, GR 3 as well the all the sonar sysths?
3. I would like to get the controller and use the software with it. Has there been any vast improvements to the hardware as well the soft ware?
A closed mind is nothing but a waste of space!

My take

1. No. I feel they need to make resource management a top priority.
2. Don't know
3. Yes, the hardware seems to work better now, but the best thing they did to Kore was to make it so you didn't have to use the hardware.

Just got the Kore 2.1 Update last night. Basically, they let you use the kore controller with other stuff now, like your host sequencer. It also really works well now. There was some improvement on CPU usage as well. If you have Kore2 go get that free update. Nice stuff.

On my dual 1.8ghz G5 running 10.5.8:

I tried Kore Player then Kore Player 2 and didn't really use them much. But I went ahead and ordered the software only Kore 2.

Install 1 failed because I attempted to save the samples into the same directory as Kore Player. then I dumped the Kore Player samples -- why hang on to kore player if I own the full Kore 2?

Install 2 failed because I went to D&D night with my buddies before selecting where to save the samples, and we had a power outage while I was gone.

Install 3 worked this morning, but attempting to use the NI Service Center App failed to communicate, so it's not up and running quite yet. My goal is to call them at the end of the day today.

The Service Center is the biggest piece of garbage NI ever put out, IMO. I installed Komplete 5 over the summer, and it's constantly forgetting that I've registered products IN THE MIDDLE OF ME USING THEM.

NI says it's because I opened the instruments as VSTs before I used them in Stand Alone mode, which I don't agree with (I was giddy as a school boy to try everything out; I didn't want to wait to load a VST every time), and their only solution is for me to uninstall every NI product and reinstall everything, fresh, opening them all in stand alone mode first.

They should have just gone with an iLok key.

But good luck... I'm excited to see what you think of Kore 2, as that's my next purchase (despite the Service Center BS).
