Not a good idea... the output levels are not line-level, which is what active speaker inputs expect... and the signal level is not strong enough to drive passive speakers.

all you really need is something with an input
and then the right number of outputs to suit the number of monitors of you have
ideally they'd have individual level controls, or some switch to choose which output is currently active.
and then, of course, make sure the signal strength is suited to your needs. (ie dont do like you'd asked about, above, about using a headphoone amp)

Not to mention that it needs to be quiet, and not colour the signal in ANY way....

im thinking about getting that macbigknob...but it said something about selecting your monitors you want to hear..can you just select all your monitors and hear it playback all at the same time..or is it that you can only hear one pair of monitors for each switch?

Mackie says-

Monitor Selection
When it comes to mixing, pros know it’s best to get a second, and third, opinion. So Big Knob lets you quickly switch between 3 pairs of studio monitors, or 2 studio monitors and a subwoofer, or studio monitors and a home stereo, or any other combination of powered speakers.

This will take care of your needs.
