$300 Mic...???

Postby flygrade on Sun Apr 17, 2005 10:42 pm

i've been perusing the web for a new mic...currently stuck with a mxl2002...the budget can only allow $300-350 for a mic...

heard good things about shure ksm 27, rode n1000, audio technica at4033, studio projects c3(especially because of multi-pattern and incl. accessories)

People are probably tired of me saying it, but the M-Audio Solaris is... "special" at that price. I have a pair that are under almost constant use for live and recording purposes. I haven't found anything that sounded bad in front of it yet. The only time I reach for the 414's anymore is if I'm already using the Solarises (Solari?) and need more LDC's to go around. The rolloff is to die for also...

I am putting a Solaris through it's paces tonight. So far it seems quite transparent. Not as bassy as my other condensers. Does not like plosives at close range. A nice vocal sound though, without hardly any muddy frequencies.
