1. Tell us how much you paid for the unit.

It was marked 499.99 at GC, but I had a ZZounds catalog that had them for $399 so they went let me out of the door with them for $377

2. How long have you had it?
4 days

3. Rate it on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best.
10

4. Things you like about it
The low end is awesome and the frequencie range in general. They are pretty rugged, no cheap feel to them.

5. Things you don't like about it.
I have 20/20, but when i look at the blue power led from about 3 feet i see double... :)

6. Anything else you wish to add--for example, compare it to other similar gear, tell us your tips, sites with free patches, problems, list your website that has info specific to this piece, et
This is my first set of monitors, and I'm glad I went with an the 8a vice the 5a because i know i would need a subwoofer with the 5a.

Is this your first pair of monitors? What other kinds have you used (if they are not)... not what did you "test," but what have you owned/learned?

At GC I tested the Event TR8, Alesis Monitor I Active MKII, and KRK RP8. The KRK seemed to colorful on the low end, my friend has a pair of KRKs and he loves them. The Alesis was ok but, in my opinion, with the Alesis you were going to need a sub.

The battle was between the Events and the M-Audio. The Events sounded really good and so did the M-Audio. If I didn't get the price reduced on the M-Audio I still would have picked them because I like the way it is constructed. It was a very hard decision between the two, until money started to play as a factor.

Oh yeah this is my first pair for me, but I've worked with other people in the pass and most of them had KRKs. These cause an over exaggerated bass in the mix which resulted in a low bass in the final product. I had a buddy with the Event 20/20, very awesome and accurate, but I couldn't see paying that much for monitors yet. Maybe in about a year or two, I'll purchase something at that level.

Behringer Truth B2031A

Postby mrzonules on Mon Oct 10, 2005 10:00 pm

I am looking to get a pair of good 8" Bi-Amplified Near-Field speakers for my apartment. I don't want or need to spend more than $400 or so. My dad has the Behringer Truth B2031A speakers. They sound pretty good, especially for the price. These have 225W of power, more than the M-Audio BX8a'a at 130W. The price on the M-Audios are only $60 more, so the budget is still good for me.

I was wondering if anyone has heard both of these side-by-side. The Behringers are a bit dry/boring, and can be boomy (without the low-cut). These look like they would be more balanced, or perhaps more open-sounding (both are good for my tastes). I was also wondering also if these are too adversly affected by (corner) placement due to the rear-ports.

Thanks in advance,
-Nathan

"with the Alesis you were going to need a sub"
