RE20 is the broadcast "standard." Rode just came out with a mic designed for broadcasting - it really shouldn't matter - I actually find that I can get away with using a pretty low-quality mic for "voicing" or redubbing DV stuff (it it's speech).

RE20 or C414. Nothing else let's me get the full potential of my voice.

The KSM27 from Shure is also a very good Voice-Over choice. I know of a Canadian VO Artist, Roger Dey who uses one extensively in his productions and they a pure.
The RE-20 is a radio broadcst standard, as is the Shure SM7B. Robin from the Howard Stern Show uses this mic.
A recent set of favourites for VO work is the HEIL PR30 and the PR40. The PR40 is the one that Dave Letterman has on his desk. I ordered one for myself.
An expensive favourtite is the C414 from AKG that was mentioned above. I used one for a few years at a radio station that I worked at.

It's hard to beat the RE-20 with a good preamp. Maybe not the greatest thing for smoky, sily, breathy jazz vocals, but excellent for almost everything else.

Please note that, in my first post, I said "Nothing else let's me get the full potential of my voice." I've used everything from an RCA R77 to a Nuemann TLM 197... including the SM5 and the SM7... and I still prefer the RE20 or AKG 414 BXL-II for my voice.

And, when it comes to "standards" (mics used a lot), the Sennheiser MD421 (and it's variations) have been used by hundreds of radio stations, but they sucks when compared to the Shure SM7 (and it's variations)... which I also dislike.

AKG's ads state that the 414s have been used to record more hit songs than any other microphone... and that could be true... but the most important fact is that it is an awesome mic for a lot of situations... but not ALL voices or instruments.

The RE20 might not be what you like... and that's okay.

oh, i got ya in your 1st post and i really appreciate your input.
like i said before i work with re20s and think they sound good, but i dont have the pre and all the other crap my station does.

ill give it a couple days and see how i like the re20 with my setup and who knows i might like it more, the same, or less than the ksm27.

i would have liked to get try the re27 n/d, but it was about $150 or so more than the re20.
