Soft sampler that CAN ACTUALY SAMPLE ?

Postby Ruffy on Wed Jun 21, 2006 7:43 am

Please help me anyone, im about to flip out here ! i sold my Yamaha SU700 last year and although i thought it wouldnt be a problem i cant find a software sampler that CAN ACTUALY SAMPLE ? i have seen on this site that Emulator x can sample but what i want to know is can it sample audio internaly...

here is what i want to do:

1. play one of my many classic funk mp3's in winamp or whatever.

2. while the song is playing i want to make quick on the fly samples directly into a soft sampler in cubase.

..pretty simple really !

all i can find are samplers that can only LOAD samples and its driving me crazy because recording samples with soundforge/cropping/editing/saving/loading into battery/intakt is wayy to long and gets in the way of my creativity unlike hardware samplers where you can get ideas going in seconds.

once again i will be extremely greatful if anyone can confirm that emulator x is able to do what i want or if not recommend any other that can.

You can use any audio editor (audacity is good freeware) to sample internally. Save the clip as a wave, then import into your soft sampler. I don't know of any soft sampler that actually samples. Heck, you can even use windows recorder for that function.

edit: oops, just re-read your post - you know this already. Sorry - can't help you otherwise....

Believe it or not, Imageline (you know...the Fruity Loops company) have released a soft sampler which actually samples!! It can load many different file formats

" ...Import: DWP (proprietary), WAV (any), SF2 (Soundfont), AKP (Akai), Propellerheads Recycle, Native Instruments Battery, Kontakt *(nki), GIGA *(gig) & eMagic EXS24"

Don't know how good it is but the specs look good. Check it out here:

Cheers.

wooohooo ! this looks like it could be the one :D

"Realtime sampling / recording of whatever is connected to DirectWave inputs (needs modular host or host with assignable plug-in routing)"

what is modular host with assiganable plug- in routing though ??

does that mean cubase sx ?

I think that means any of the full sequencer packages...like cubase, Live, even their own FL studio etc.

That one half the reason I'm upgrading to version 6. I do so much patch creation and effects work, that it's very CPU intensive. That sampler will allow me to create multi sample banks from soft synths as well as harware.. :)

Depending on how hard the conversion process is, I may start puttting out sample CDs...

My intuition would tell me perhaps you'd have to open it up in the mixer? that way you can run audio into it.. ? I dont know much about cubase.. but i'd also look into cubase for routing audio in other channels..
