LOGIC pro 8 Announced today! Price Cut!

Apple released Logic Studio today. Logic Studio features Logic Pro 8, and introduces a new live performace application called MainStage. Logic Studio also includes Soundtrack Pro 2, Apple's professional audio post production software; Studio Instruments, made up of 40 pristine quality instruments; Studio Effects, with 80 professional effect plug-ins; a vast Studio Sound Library; and a powerful set of production utilities.
From the fun and intuitive GarageBand to the all new Logic Studio, there's never been a better time to be a musician on the Mac," said Rob Schoeben, Apple's vice president of Applications Product Marketing. "For less than $500, Logic Studio transforms the Mac into the most powerful musical instrument in the world."

Logic Studio is available now for $499.

I just opened up the page and saw that. I was highly impressed. It looks like I might need to upgrade my OS on my G5 though. It says that you need OSX 10.4.9

It looks pretty exciting. The price cut worried me. Did they cut features, or did they just figure that Logic wasn't selling well enough at nearly $1k? It certainly doesn't LOOK like they cut any features. In fact, it looks like they added a few things.

Price cuts always scare me

Wow! Yeah, I was just reading about this. From my own reading of the various Logic forums over the last year or so I can see a lot in here that people have been asking for...and also obviously Apple's desire to create an audio production app to draw music makers from the Windows platform to the Mac! )

Among the actual technical/workflow 'enhancements' etc, there is this minor gem:

"XSKey-free operation
A simple serial number replaces the USB dongle and lets you make music without the hassle of extraneous hardware." !!! :D

The new take management for audio recording is about to leave me several hundred dollars poorer. That's the one thing I've been missing from Cubase, and Logic just got an even better version...

It might be time for me to say "bye" to Steinberg. Has anyone found an Academic price?

That new Apogee Duet interface looks very nice too.

requirements

also 2gb ram, and some 40gb+ of hard disk space. additionally, although the g4 is supported, they recommend G5, core 2 duo, and Xeon processors.

the 10.4.9 is a deal breaker for me, because protools le / m-powered only supports up to 10.4.8

The academic price is $459 USD. Not quite a huge discount, but then again, compared to what Logic USED to cost, who cares? The student discount on Logic 7 was nearly 50% off. So now everybody gets it half price.

I'm not too worried about the hard drive space. My PC has been very ill behaved lately and I think that I will punish it by stealing it's hardrives and reformatting them. Of course, since my PC won't even turn on any more, I don't think that it will care.

Got it!

Postby robbiedo on Wed Sep 12, 2007 7:02 pm

Well, I went to the Apple Store and bought it. A complete install is 50GB. I had -40GB available on my laptop, so I did a basic install. It looks nice. I am going to go do a complete install on my Mac Pro. I will update soonest

Tweak better write a review.

or somebody else..

But, I have to say this news is upsetting and also exciting at the same time. Exciting because I was just about to build a new cubase-based PC system, but thankfully I haven't yet. Maybe I'll get a mac pro and this instead.

The upgrade from Express is 299.00. Had Express and 1 jam pack.

This is a great deal, and if the new features work as described, will shave hours off of production time.

THAT SUCKS.. i was really happy to see the new Logic but i think its like i gave really rich apple corporation 700 bucks for nothing

Logic Studio

Postby red_cahill on Thu Sep 13, 2007 10:48 am

I'm sold. I'm a PC/Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 user for the last 7 years. That's right. Got my money's worth I guess.

I first thought about upgrading to Sonar 6. Then I thought about Pro Tools LE. Bought my first Mac last month and started thinking Logic. Tuesday I bid and lost on Logic Pro 7. Then I started thinking Cubase Studio 4 and almost bought it YESTERDAY!! Next day 8 comes out at that price! Must be destiny. Apple has made up my mind for me. Thanks huge corporation!! Finally I can stop thinking. Very stoked. Gonna be very busy this fall and winter for sure.

I gotta go to the Apple store.

Did you buy it after August 1st? If so, you can get the new version for $10: http://www.apple.com/logicstudio/uptodate/

No crossgrades.

I would love to get into logic for this price. But I've never used a mac...never even touched one so I wouldn't have a clue what to do, let alone make any music.

It's very much like using a PC, only without anything negative. The interface is easy to get used to if you let yourself.
